STYLE FILE: Luxe Glam
Sophisticated interiors are your thing. Luxurious textiles, rich colors, and anything painted in gold is a must for your home. You love the opulence of it; mirrors, chandeliers, sconces, and fresh flowers are a must!
A Little History
There are so many stunning variations on glam decor throughout history, but setting the scene for my favorite type of glam style is Hollywood Regency. This style rose to fame in the 1930's. Hollywood's golden era was alive with Art Deco inspired movie sets, rich in color and detail. While the color didn't translate over to the screen, this style won over the hearts of audiences in America. People began incorporating lavish textiles and dramatic furniture pieces into their own homes. The style is still popular today- and more glamorus than ever!
In a glam space, color is very flexible. You can use as much or as little color as you wish. What will make or break your space relies on two important factors. The first being a cohesive color palette. The second- the use of metallics. Metallic accents alone will give a sophisticated and indulgent flair to your space.
Pattern + Materials
Dramatic floral patterns, animal prints, and geometric trellis and greek key prints are timeless to interior design and reminiscent of the old Hollywood style. Incorporate these into your space with luxurious, textural velvets and satin solids. These solid fabrics help offset the bold, overstated patterns.
Hardwood floors look especially luxurious laid out in a herringbone or basket weave pattern. Mirrored and metallic accents should be featured throughout your space. This can be done through chair legs and arms, accent furniture, casegoods, and decor items. Similar to choosing your color palette, it is important to stick with the same colors when choosing metallic accents for your space.
Mixing old and new is your best bet to a well designed glam space. Pair finds from your favorite trendiest retail stores with pieces you find at estate sales or antique stores. Look for vintage furniture with beautiful carved details. If you are up for a D.I.Y. project, find a fun new fabric and reupholster your new additions. Mix these older pieces with modern, clean-silhouetted pieces for a well rounded, up-to-date look.
Decor + Details
Balancing out your interiors with large, bold art is a great way to deeper define your style and add more of your personality to your space.
Let it Breathe
Too many details and not enough light can make a room feel a bit stuffy. Balance this out by incorporating large mirrors to open up your space and create an added sense of light in your room.
